Universal Life Coverage in Lincoln
Universal life is lifelong coverage you can adjust. As your circumstances change, you can change your payments and the amount your beneficiary would get. One agent explains your choices, works through the figures with you and remains your contact for the life of the policy.
Lifelong coverage you can adjust
Universal life is one kind of permanent life insurance. Some of each payment covers the insurance, and the remainder goes into a cash value account that earns interest. The premium is not fixed the way it is with whole life. Within set limits, you can pay extra when money is good, pay less when it is tight, and increase or decrease the death benefit down the road.
That freedom carries a responsibility. The internal insurance cost climbs as you get older, and a policy funded too thinly can drain its cash value and lapse. We say this up front, show how the policy behaves at different payment levels and review it yearly so it does not slip off track unnoticed.
It often suits people who want coverage beyond what a term policy offers, whose income rises and falls, or who want to leave money to a beneficiary while keeping a hand on the cost.
What you get from us
- Needs first, quote second
- We look at who relies on you, what bills or costs they would face and how long coverage should run. From there we can tell whether universal life fits or whether term or whole life is a better match.
- Illustrations compared side by side
- You see illustrations at several funding levels, including how the policy holds up if interest comes in below projections. They show where cash value might land and the age at which the policy would be at risk if you stopped paying.
- Picking the right version
- There are several kinds of universal life, from guaranteed versions meant mostly to last for life to versions built for more cash value growth. We lay out the tradeoffs simply so your choice matches your goal.
- Riders explained, never pushed
- Options such as a premium waiver or an early payout for serious illness can help. We share what each costs and when it truly matters, and the call is yours.
- Yearly policy reviews
- Every year we read your statement with you, measure it against the original plan and recommend changes if the cash value is falling behind.
Times universal life is worth a look
Your term policy is running out
When a term policy reaches its last year, a spouse or children who still rely on your income could be left exposed. Universal life can continue coverage with no end date.
Your pay changes month to month
Business owners, people on commission and seasonal workers tend to appreciate paying more in good months and less in lean ones.
You plan to leave money behind
If you want a certain amount to pass to a spouse, children or a cause, permanent coverage keeps that money available whenever the time comes.
You own an older policy that confuses you
Many people bought universal life years ago and have not checked it since. Falling cash value or rising charges on your statement mean it is time for a review before the policy lapses.
Whole life seems too inflexible
When you want coverage for life but a set whole life premium is hard on your budget, universal life lets you make changes as you go.
The steps, start to finish
- 1
A phone conversation
You speak with the person who will manage your policy. We learn about your family, budget and goals for the coverage, and we answer questions without reading from a script.
- 2
Quotes and illustrations reviewed
We collect quotes and go through each illustration with you line by line. You have time to weigh it, and nobody pushes you to choose on the first call.
- 3
Applying and underwriting
After you pick a policy, we help you apply. Based on your age and the amount, the insurer may want a health questionnaire, a brief medical exam or your doctor's records. We update you at every stage so you always know where it stands.
- 4
Delivery and walkthrough
Once approved, we review the policy with you page by page, confirm your beneficiaries and explain the review window when you can still back out.
- 5
Service that continues
From then on, you keep one contact. Beneficiary updates, premium changes and annual reviews all go to the person who set up the policy.

What drives universal life pricing
Universal life has no fixed price because part of it is up to you. The insurer charges based on the risk of covering you, and you choose how much to pay above the minimum. We show how every choice changes the figures before you commit.
- Age and health
- Younger, healthier people get lower cost of insurance charges. Tobacco, some medical conditions and family history can put you in a pricier rate class.
- How large the benefit is
- A bigger benefit brings higher internal charges. You can also pick a benefit that stays flat or one that rises with the cash value, and the rising option costs more.
- How much you put in
- Paying just the minimum keeps today's cost down but increases the chance of a lapse later. Paying more builds cash value that helps absorb rising charges as you age.
- Policy design and guarantees
- Versions with firm lifetime guarantees are priced differently from those aimed at cash value growth. Which is right depends on whether certainty or flexibility matters more to you.
- Added riders
- Every optional rider carries a separate charge, so we include only those that fit your circumstances.

Is universal life or whole life better for me?
Each lasts a lifetime and builds cash value. Whole life fixes one premium that never moves, and the insurer lays out the cash value growth from the start. Universal life lets you change payments and the benefit amount over the years, but its cash value rides on credited interest and what you pay in. When predictability comes first, whole life often makes more sense; when you want flexibility, universal life tends to suit you.
Could my universal life policy lapse?
Yes, when the cash value is used up and the charges can no longer be paid. It most often happens after years of minimum funding while costs climbed with age. Routine reviews spot it early enough to make changes.
Is it possible to miss a payment?
Usually, provided the cash value can cover that month's charges. It helps during a rough patch, but doing it often weakens the policy. We can show how much cushion you have before you count on it.
Can I take a loan against the cash value?
Most universal life policies permit loans or withdrawals from cash value. An unpaid loan lowers the amount your beneficiary gets, and big withdrawals can endanger the policy, so we go over the effects with you beforehand.
Do you review policies bought elsewhere?
We do. Have your most recent annual statement nearby when you call, and we will walk through what it says, how the policy is performing and whether any adjustments are worth making. Many clients in Lincoln, Rocklin, Roseville and surrounding towns begin with this kind of review.
